Maritime Security:  Challenges and Responses to Piracy on the High Seas

WHEN: Sunday, September 20, 2009,  8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

WHY ATTEND?

Piracy is one of the most important security issues facing the world today.  Because most goods move internationally over the seas, and because of its alarming increase, piracy’s adverse effects are being felt in the world economy.  No one can ignore its consequences.  Piracy affects insurance costs, production and distribution throughout the economy, the shipping industry, crews, the allocation of military and other resources, as well consumers.  This Maritime Security seminar sponsored by The Draco Group, in conjunction with ASIS International, will present facts, challenges, and current and effective responses to piracy.

After an overview of piracy today, we will learn about the rules of engagement, critique them, and make suggestions for more effective military involvement.  Discover the far-reaching effects of piracy on the supply chain and intelligent ways to address the issues.  Learn the current security laws that set the current framework worldwide.  Discover the efforts to share information and form more effective reactions.  Learn the US policy as it is evolving, and the responses to piracy.  Learn the issues regarding on-board vessel security as the front line facing the pirates.

This seminar will be of interest to officials from the government and military, professionals from the insurance and shipping industries, security professionals, and any business that ships goods by ocean vessels.
